Fundraiser Emma and trustee Alex put on a Bollywood Night Fundraiser in their local village hall, raising over £2,000. The sell-out night was a lot of fun with Bharatnatyam dancers, curry buffet and Bollywood music. If you’d like to host a similar night please get in touch with emma@batemans.org.uk for an information pack. We can even supply the music!
Many of our supporters will know that The Batemans Trust started out helping the Anglo Indian children at St Georges School in Chennai. Today the trust helps children from a variety of ethinc and cultural backgrounds however many of our children still come from the minority Anglo Indian community. In recognition of this work, Anglos In The Wind, the international magazine for the Anglo Indian community, has published an article about Batemans. We’re very pleased to let Batemans’ supporters know that a recent visit from the child welfare department in Chennai recognised the outstanding work of The Batemans Trust. As a result of our continuing high standards the officers recommended two more children to be admitted into our care. Three children we have cared for, for many years, have also been declared wards of the charity for their protection. We are happy to be recognised for our high level of care and proud of our continued good relationship with the welfare authority in Chennai.

The children worked really hard this year on dances and performances for their annual Christmas Show. Friends, family and guests were invited to come and see the show and a lot of fun was had by all. Alex Jacob, trustee, was there for the show and commented on how fantastic it was to see some children, who had been so withdrawn and lacking confidence when they arrived at Batemans, now full of confidence and life. Well done everybody for all your hard work and thanks to the OWC for hiring the hall for the show. Below are two short videos from show and some pictures.

Our new Schools Pack is now available. We’ve designed this pack to give teachers an original and captivating way to teach various curriculum objectives with the opportunity to fundraise for the Batemans Trust along the way. Children will be drawn to the vibrant pictures of India and will love learning about children in another country. A massive thank you to all of you who helped us raise the money needed for a Batemans Bus. The changing nature of our charity means we have several projects based in different parts of Chennai and it’s been a logistical and costly challenge to transport our children around this busy Indian city via rickshaws, taxis and hired minibuses. Our own minibus will help reduce costs and mean the children spend less time getting to and from their schools.
